José Ramírez 1966 Flamenco guitar
José Ramírez Flamenco Guitar – 1966
Few names in the history of the classical and flamenco guitar carry the weight and legacy of José Ramírez. As one of the most influential luthiers of the 20th century, the Ramírez workshop in Madrid shaped the sound of generations, with instruments played by some of the greatest musicians in history. Their guitars are known for their power, character, and unmistakable Spanish voice.
We are proud to offer this exceptional 1966 José Ramírez flamenco guitar, a truly special and inspiring instrument.
Built with :
-cedar top
-cypress back and sides
-ebony fingerboard
-Rio rosewood pegs, bridge, and headplate.
It is a traditional peghead flamenco, embodying the purity and authenticity of the era.
What immediately stands out is its extraordinary playability. The action is low, fast, and comfortable — without compromising clarity. It is, without doubt, one of the finest playing Ramírez guitars we have had in our hands.
The sound is pure, old-school flamenco: dry, percussive, and incredibly responsive, with a powerful projection that rivals even modern double-top guitars — yet this is a fully traditional build. It carries that unmistakable character reminiscent of historic recordings from the golden era of flamenco.
As expected from a guitar of this age, it has undergone some professional repairs, including a crack on the top and one on the side. These have been well stabilized and do not affect the structural integrity or performance of the instrument. Overall, the guitar remains in remarkably good condition for its age.
The initials J.G. indicate that it was built by master luthier Juan García Rey.
The instrument comes with its original handmade Italian leather case, completing this rare offering.
