A beautiful blanca flamenco guitar built by Rafael Romero in San Fernando, Cádiz, in 2015.

This is a particularly fine example of Romero's work, built with excellent materials and in almost new condition. The guitar has a spruce top and Spanish cypress back and sides, with a very light and traditional construction.

The condition is exceptional. The guitar has only minimal signs of use and has been extremely well cared for. Structurally, it is in excellent condition and presents almost as a new instrument.

The sound is exactly what you would hope for from a fine traditional blanca: crisp, direct, punchy and powerful, with an immediate response and excellent clarity. It is particularly well suited to accompanying cante and baile, where its light response and strong rhythmic character really come into their own.

The guitar is remarkably easy to play and feels very light and responsive in the hands. It is an excellent instrument for a guitarist who wants a traditional flamenco sound without having to compromise on playability or quality.

About Rafael Romero

Rafael Romero Barroso is a respected guitarist and luthier from San Fernando, Cádiz, and an important figure in the flamenco guitar tradition of La Isla. He began playing guitar at the age of twelve and became a professional flamenco guitarist while still young, accompanying artists including Chano Lobato, Rancapino and El Chato de la Isla. 

He later dedicated himself increasingly to guitar making, receiving guidance from makers including Mario Melero and José Romero. His experience as a professional flamenco guitarist is an important part of his approach to building: his instruments are designed from the perspective of a player who understands exactly what is required for flamenco accompaniment and performance. 

Today, Rafael Romero is regarded as one of the important representatives of the guitar-making tradition of San Fernando and the Cádiz area. His guitars are played by professional flamenco musicians and are appreciated for their powerful sound, playability and traditional character.

Een prachtige blanca flamencogitaar, gebouwd door Rafael Romero in San Fernando, Cádiz, in 2015.

Dit is een bijzonder mooi voorbeeld van het werk van Romero, gebouwd met uitstekende materialen en in vrijwel nieuwstaat. De gitaar heeft een sparren bovenblad en Spaanse cipressen achter- en zijkanten, met een lichte en traditionele constructie.

De staat van de gitaar is uitzonderlijk goed. Er zijn slechts minimale gebruikssporen zichtbaar en het instrument is zeer zorgvuldig behandeld. Constructief verkeert de gitaar in uitstekende staat en hij ziet er bijna uit als een nieuw instrument.

De klank is precies wat je van een goede traditionele blanca mag verwachten: helder, direct, krachtig en percussief, met een zeer snelle respons en uitstekende definitie. Over Rafael Romero

Rafael Romero Barroso is een gerespecteerd gitarist en gitaarbouwer uit San Fernando, Cádiz, en een belangrijke vertegenwoordiger van de flamencogitaartraditie van La Isla. Hij begon op twaalfjarige leeftijd gitaar te spelen en werd al op jonge leeftijd professioneel flamencogitarist. Hij begeleidde onder anderen Chano Lobato, Rancapino en El Chato de la Isla. 

Later richtte hij zich steeds meer op de gitaarbouw en kreeg hij begeleiding van onder anderen de bouwers Mario Melero en José Romero. Zijn ervaring als professioneel flamencogitarist speelt een belangrijke rol in zijn manier van bouwen: hij begrijpt vanuit de praktijk precies wat een gitarist nodig heeft voor het begeleiden van zang en dans. 

Tegenwoordig wordt Rafael Romero gezien als een belangrijke vertegenwoordiger van de gitaarbouwtraditie van San Fernando en de regio Cádiz. Zijn gitaren worden bespeeld door professionele flamencogitaristen en staan bekend om hun krachtige klank, uitstekende speelbaarheid en traditionele karakter.
